The Outer Space Quartet

The Outer Space Film Quartet (Moonrise; Musca; Memorabilia; Requiem) is a suite of thematically linked experimental films that explore ethics and emotion in outer space, and a multimedia creation of the Archival Futures Collective, co-created by Rowena Potts and Ceridwen Dovey.

Inspired by archival research and museum collections, each film repurposes historical footage and space imagery to create speculative and poetic representations of our evolving relationship to off-Earth environments. From the ancient nature-spaces of the moon, now threatened by the possibility of permanent human occupation, to the aura of ‘flown’ space objects, the quartet will invite the audience to contemplate their possible space futures through a different lens. The films will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the filmmakers, ANU scholars of film and cosmology, and a senior exhibit developer from Questacon.

Panel Discussion
Moderated by Leslie Barnes, Associate Professor of French, ANU
Rowena Potts, Film Director, Anthropologist,  Co-Founder The Archival Futures Collective
Ceridwen Dovey, Film Writer and Producer,  Co-Founder The Archival Futures Collective
